The firm has represented clients in the filing of hundreds of patent and trademark applications and its lawyers have appeared as counsel in numerous proceedings before all levels of courts in Canada.

Professional Qualifications

The partners have extensive experience in all aspects of intellectual property law and are both lawyers and patent and trademark agents. In addition, each partner has a pre-law technical degree. All of the firm's associates have technical degrees complementing those of the partners.

The firm's two litigation partners have appeared at all levels of courts and have more than 50 years' experience between them. The cases they have appeared in include some of the most frequently cited patent and trademark court decisions.

The firm has represented clients in the filing of many hundreds of patent and trademark applications and in opposition, reissue and re-examination proceedings.

In addition, partners of the firm have served on the Patent Agents Examining Board and the Law Society of Upper Canada Intellectual Property Specialist Certification Committee.


Piasetzki Nenniger Kvas LLP is located in the heart of Toronto's business and financial district, a few blocks from the Federal Court of Canada and the Ontario Courts. Same day Canadian Patent Office filings can be made electronically or at the nearby Toronto branch of the Patent Office.


Fees are calculated on either an hourly rate or a fixed fee basis. Litigation matters are generally billed on an hourly basis while matters such as trademark applications are generally billed on a fixed fee basis. In either case, the firm will, on request, provide clients with an estimate prior to undertaking any work.
